Types of Feedstocks
BBiomass feedstocks are organic materials used for energy production and other products. Below are the main types of biomass feedstocks used in renewable energy applications.
Agricultural Waste
This includes crop residues such as rice husks, corn stalks, and sugarcane bagasse. Agricultural waste is one of the most abundant sources of biomass.
Forestry Residues
These are materials collected from forest management and logging activities, including branches, sawdust, and wood chips. They can be converted into bioenergy or other products.
Industrial By-Products
This includes residues from paper mills, food processing, and other industries that generate organic waste materials, such as pulp or food scraps.
Aquatic Biomass
Aquatic plants and algae are emerging as a promising source of biomass. They can be harvested from freshwater or marine environments and used for biofuels and other products.
Urban Waste
Organic waste from urban areas, including food waste, yard clippings, and biodegradable municipal waste, can be processed to produce biogas and other bio-based products.
